Alberto Petronio

Star Citizen, X4 Foundation

England

I am a Lead Concept Artist on the Star Citizen vehicle team, specializing in vehicle design and hard-surface props and environments. With over 11 years of experience across multiple design industries, my background bridges industrial design and videogame development. I spent four years at Pininfarina working on projects ranging from yachts and aircraft to pens, industrial machinery, and snow cannons, building a strong foundation in functional, serial production-driven design. I later transitioned into the videogame industry, contributing to titles such as X4 and Star Citizen, alongside numerous freelance projects. At Cloud Ipmerium Games, Star Citizen, I partecipated in building an internal concept team, establishing workflows tightly integrated with 3D production needs and fostering a problem-solving–oriented mindset focused on efficiency, clarity, and collaboration mantaining the creativity and care that distinguish Star Citizen from the competition.

MENTORSHIP

HOW Alberto Petronio MENTORS

Portfolio Review

Curate a winning presentation. We will audit your current body of work to identify your strengths and weaknesses. I will help you decide which pieces to keep, which to cut, and exactly what new pieces you need to create to attract the specific studios or clients you want to work for.

Paintovers (Visual corrections)

Practical, visual problem solving. Sometimes words aren't enough. I will screen-share and paint directly over your work-in-progress or finished pieces. This demonstrates exactly how to fix issues with lighting, composition, anatomy, or perspective, giving you immediate visual solutions to apply to your art.

Project/IP Review

Cohesive world-building and storytelling. Instead of looking at single images, we look at the bigger picture of your personal Intellectual Property (IP). I will help you ensure your design language is consistent, your world-building feels grounded, and your visual storytelling effectively communicates the narrative of your project.

Career Advice & Industry Navigation

Professional strategy and growth. We discuss the business side of art. I can help you with resume/CV tips, interview prep, understanding studio hierarchies, freelance rates, and networking strategies to help you break into or move up in the industry.

Technical Workflow (3D/2D mix)

Speed, efficiency, and pipeline. We will break down your creation process. I will show you how to integrate 3D tools (like Blender/ZBrush) into your 2D painting workflow to speed up production, maintain perspective accuracy, and meet professional deadlines without burning out.

Mindset & Soft Skills

Mental resilience and discipline. The art journey is mentally taxing. We will discuss how to handle imposter syndrome, creative block, and burnout. I will help you build the discipline and professional attitude required to handle art direction and feedback in a production environment.

HOW Alberto Petronio MENTORS

My focus is on design and how its components integrate into the narrative of an IP. I pay particular attention to the balance between aesthetics, function, and semiotics, making sure every element communicates clearly and is consistent with the surrounding narrative. Once the design intent is defined, I shift my attention to the technical side, refining and polishing the work to production quality. Over the past seven years, I’ve developed a solid, efficient workflow in Blender, becoming highly proficient while relying on as few add-ons as possible. I can help polish models, improve materials, and optimize scenes for animation and rendering. last but not least, if you like to take a step back from the design process and look at your own project from a different perspective, i can help with world building and IP Development, drawing on my experience in world-building to support cohesive visual languages and long-term design thinking.
